What comes in one's mind, when they hear the phrase "manufactured homes?" Some might think that they are mobile homes, others might not even have a clue.
A manufactured home is a type of a housing unit, which is mostly assembled in a factory, and then transported to a site. In United States, manufactured homes are built entirely in a protected environment under a federal code set by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Manufactured Homes are NOT mobile homes, since "mobile home" refers to manufactured homes that were built before the federal codes were enacted.
Manufactured homes are desired by homeowners because they generally cost far less to build than a traditional built home. In addition, the buyer can select from a wide variety of amenities, layouts, and room sizes. In this way, manufactured homes are completely customizable and capable of being built to specifications.
Today, manufactured homes come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes that can be difficult to tell from traditional built homes. It may be a simple one-story "mobile home," or it can be so large and complex that you might not guess that it was constructed off site. They can be just as large and intricately designed as traditional built homes.
